The most frequent reason people don't know a laptop password is the laptop was stolen, or they're trying to access a computer that's not theirs that they shouldn't have the right to access, but if it is unknown for some other reason, contact the seller to see if you can contact whoever installed the password - e.g. the computer administrator for a business that owned the computer .
The passwords on laptops and netbooks made in the last ten years or so are not stored in the bios - they're stored in a separate chip on the mboard that cannot have the user contents erased by removing the power to it, or by clearing the Cmos contents.Almost all software and info meant for removing passwords on older laptops does not work on newer laptops.
When a drivelock password has been used, the info about whether the hard drive is locked is also stored on the hard drive in a data area that is not accessible by you using any normal or easily available free special software. If you were to transfer the drivelocked hard drive to another computer with a bios version compatible with removing the drivelock that does not have a drivelock pass word enabled, you still would still not be able to access the hard drive if you don't know the password.
You could replace the mboard with a used one you bought on the web that has no password to get rid of a bios or system access password(s) problem, but you still wouldn't be able to access a drivelocked hard drive if you don't know the password.
